Polite Enquiry
I am haunted, afraid and scarred
By the world that passed me by.
But I try so damn hard
To hold my head up high.
Contemptuous and hurting, I try to throw
Everything to insistent denial.
May you never know
The lies behind my smile.
Introspection
A lazy eye slides open
And casts a slow gaze around.
The great orb of a dozen colors scans
Its surroundings dozily.
With a languid sigh, and huff of breath,
The sleeping dragon closes its eye once more.
The dragon is secret to all.
Someday, he will raise his head,
Flex his long, scaled neck
And stretch his strong jaws wide.
Great wings of smouldering gold unfurl
As a mighty tail teases the air!
Noble dragon will emerge into sunlight.
Green scales reflecting sunlight's golden hue,
Strong muscles bunching - and a leap
And this gracious creature will soar!
Lord of all dominions,
Magnificent dragon rises above all.
But brave dragon sleeps now.
Hidden by his loneliness,
Forsaken by his love,
And drowned in his despair;
Broken dragon can only dream
Of awakening once more.
Darkness Inside
Come,
Cry for me tonight, my dear.
Hold my open hand,
Rest that weary head.
Relieve your broken heart
And offer your shining soul.
I need you to need me.
To indulge my secret darkness:
Your warm tears flowing
Over my frigid skin.
But please,
Please,
Avoid my smiling eyes.
